HE’S used to making quick changes, but the preparation for his latest role was a challenge for Welsh actor Trystan Gravelle.
The 28 year old had to reshape his entire body to play Achilles in the first full-scale production of Troilus and Cressida at Shakespeare’s Globe, which opened this week
“I’d just finished playing an impoverished actor, a real Withnail-type character, in Ché Walker’s The Frontline,” explains the Trimsaran-born star.
“It’s a beautiful part, Mordechai Thurrock, this young rootless, desperate person who’s always on the phone, always trying to get ahead.
“Anyway, I’d been playing this role and I’d lost a lot of condition, to be this starving sort of living-on-his-nerves kind of guy.
“So when I came to start rehearsals I realised, right, I’ve got six weeks to get back into shape to bulk up. And that turned out to be a really interesting experience, really concentrating my mind on what we were doing.
“The production has a real emphasis on the historical context of the play, in that it’s a medieval story that was grafted onto Homer’s Iliad.
