INTRODUCTION Writing a short biographical article on a figure like Martin Luther in the contemporary context of celebrating years of the Reformation this year, is a particularly daunting challenge. It provides a particularly tricky task to produce something valuable for a Protestant audience obviously familiar with the great reformer, a man ranked by Time Magazine in as the 17th most influential human being in history Luther is renowned as the great church reformer, the theologian, the hymnist and Christian philosopher. Martin trained at the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art. His first job, in , was at Queen's Theatre, Hornchurch under Bob Tompson. After appearing in Straight Up at The White Bear in Kennington, directed by Sabina Franklyn, he performed in the original workshop production of Sunset Boulevard at the Sydmonton Festival, created the role of Tig in Rain Dogs at the Prince of Wales, a musical based on the songs of Tom Waits, and appeared in the British premiere of Nine at the Royal Festival Hall.
An appealing and versatile television actress, Amanda Abbington received her most popular showcase as the mysterious Mary Morstan on "Sherlock" (BBC 1, ), which co-starred her longtime significant other, actor Martin Freeman. Born Amanda Jane Smith on February 28, in London, England, she initially wanted to be a dancer, but an injury at the end of her teenaged years spurred her to try her hand at acting.
