Biography
Abu Nasr Mansur was a native of Gilan which is mentioned in The Regions of the World, a Persian geography book of His family, the Banu Iraq, were rulers of Khwarazm the region adjoining the Aral Sea, and it was in this region that Abu Nasr Mansur studied and became a disciple of Abu'l-Wafa. Abu Nasr Mansur was teaching in this area when he first began his association with al-Biruni whom he taught from about This began an important collaboration which was to go on for many years.The end of the 10th century and beginning of the 11th century was a period of great unrest in the Islamic world and there were civil wars in the region in which Abu Nasr Mansur was living. Khwarazm was at this time part of the Samanid Empire which ruled from Bukhara. Other states in the region were the Ziyarid state with its capital at Gurgan

Abu Nasri Mansur ibn Ali ibn Iraq al-Jaʿdī (persa: أبو نصر منصور بن علی بن عراق; c. – ) fue un matemático y astrónomo musulmán persa. Es bien conocido por su trabajo con la ley del seno esférico.
Abu Nasr Mansur nació en Gilan, Persia, en la familia gobernante de Khwarezm, los Afrigids. Era, pues, un príncipe dentro de la esfera política. Fue alumno de Abu&#;l-Wafa y profesor y también un importante colega del matemático Al-Biruni. Juntos fueron responsables de grandes descubrimientos en matemáticas y se dedicaron muchos trabajos.
La mayor parte del trabajo de Abu Nasri se centró en matemáticas, pero algunos de sus escritos fueron sobre astronomía. En matemáticas, tuvo muchos escritos importantes sobre trigonometría, que se desarrollaron a partir de los escritos de Ptolomeo. También conservó los escritos de Menelao de Alejandría y reelaboró muchos de los teoremas griegos.
Murió en el Imperio Ghaznavid (actual Afganistán), cerca de la ciudad de Ghazna.
