Early Life and Education
Franz Kneisel was born into a German-Romanian family in Bucharest, Romania. At the age of 12, he entered the Bucharest Conservatory, where he completed his studies in Subsequently, he traveled to Vienna to pursue further training under renowned violinists Jacob Grün and Josef Hellmesberger.
Concert Debut and Boston Symphony Orchestra
In , Kneisel made his concert debut and quickly established himself as a virtuoso violinist. In , he was invited by Wilhelm Gericke to join the Boston Symphony Orchestra as its concertmaster. Kneisel held this position until , during which time he also performed as a soloist and served as assistant conductor.
Kneisel Quartet
In , Kneisel founded the Kneisel Quartet, a renowned ensemble that set the standard for string quartet playing in the United States. For 32 years, Kneisel remained the quartet's first violinist, sharing the stage with some of the greatest musicians of the time.

Franz Kneisel was a German (some would say American or Romanian) violinist, conductor, composer, and teacher born (in Bucharest) on January 26, He is known for having taught for many years at the Institute of Musical Arts (Juilliard) and for having led the famous Kneisel Quartet for more than thirty years () Together with Theodore Thomas, Max Bendix, Simon Jacobsohn, Theodore Spiering, Ferdinand Laub, and Hans Letz, he was a violinist who set the groundwork for the establishment of classical music as a viable and serious art in the U.S. at the turn of the twentieth century. In Europe, that tradition had already been in motion and thriving for over years. Kneisel graduated from the Bucharest Conservatory in , at age In Vienna, he studied with Jacob Grun and Joseph Hellmesberger at the Vienna Conservatory for three years. In , he made his debut in Vienna. He then soon became concertmaster of the Hofburg Theatre Orchestra in Vienna. He was 18 years old. Giovanni Battista Guadagnini, following Antonio Stradivari and Giuseppe Guarneri “del Gesu,” has been known as one of the greatest violin makers in history and left most unique artwork for the following generations.
He developed his violin making activities in five cities in his life. His career started in Piacenza around , and moved to Milan in , which was the center of arts in those days, following Carlo Ferrari’s advice, a cellist and one of his friends.
This violin was made in Milan in Like the other violins made in that period, it is made of highest class of wood and is clad in reddish transparent varnish.
From the energetically cut f-holes and the animated feeling of the flat arch, it can be told that Guadagnini was changing his style better in performance-effectiveness and sound in creative manners, after some feedback from violinists.
Its deep, warm and strong sound has charmed many audiences.
After Guadagnini passed away, this violin was loved and used by Franz Kneisel, a violinist.
