Those supporters of the Yahapalana Regime whose apologies have diminished to the point they take refuge in what I call the ‘At Least Thesis’ in the now tired game of comparison, have rightfully found some fuel in the recent assertiveness of the Attorney General’s reference is of course to the uncompromising positions taken by Additional Solicitor General Dappula De Livera and Deputy Solicitor General Milinda Gunathilaka in questioning witnesses before the Presidential Commission of Inquiry (PCoI) into the Central Bank bond issue scam.
What’s missing in the adoration is something, anything, on the highly irregular operations of the Attorney General when it comes down to it, the obvious courage, conviction and argumentative skill of subordinates have been deployed selectively, i.e. to attack a man who has by his own actions and words implicated himself. A New Column
3Ps, which is a question-and-answer type column, will appear in the Sunday Island over the next ten weeks. This series will feature ten outstanding and versatile Sri Lankans, who have made significant contributions to their chosen fields. Today, we feature below a multi-talented and fascinating personality, whom I call my friend and mentor in creative writing, Malinda Seneviratne.
When I told him about my idea of 3Ps, Malinda was very supportive, but did not want me to write about him. &#;Chandi, writing about other people is what I do as a journalist&#;, he told me during our last meeting in Colombo in April After some gentle persuasion, he agreed to participate, but told me, &#;Chandi, please feature me on your tenth and last episode.&#; Today, he would be displeased with me for commencing the column, with the article about him.

Malinda Seneviratne is a sociologist by training who was educated in Sri Lanka and the USA (Harvard University, University of Southern California, and Cornell University) and wandered into journalism by accident. As a freelance journalist he has written articles covering a wide range of subjects including international political economy, development, constitutional affairs, conflict resolution, political ecology, good governance, democracy, literature, and philosophy. His interest in literature, both English and Sinhala, and his command of both languages positions him uniquely in the Sri Lankan literary firmament. Four of his past works of poetry have been shortlisted for the Gratiaen Prize. He has also translated the biography of Martin Wickramasinghe, one of the foremost Sinhala literary figures of the twentieth century. His translation of Navagaththegama's “Sansaraaranyaye Dadayakkaraya” won him the H.A.I Gunatilleka Award offered by the Gratiaen Trust (). He is regularly featured on both radio and television talk shows on political affairs. He is currently the Editor-in-Chief of The Nation (Sri Lanka).
