Mary Kay Ash was an American businesswoman who founded the Mary Kay cosmetics line.
Early Life And Childhood
Ash was born on 12 May in Hot Wells, Texas. Ash was named Mary Kathlyn Wagner by her parents, Edward Alexander and Lula Wagner. Her father was suffered from ill health and it was her mother who worked in the family. Lula Wagner worked as a nurse. It was the hard work and long shifts undertaken by her mother that inspired Ash. Ash received her education in Houston, studying at Dow Elementary and Reagan High School. Ash graduated high school in and proceeded to study at the University of Houston.
Career
Mary Kay Ash began working as a door to door salesperson during World War II. Ash sold books and was immensely successful, earning twenty-five thousand dollars in one six month period. After the end of the Second World War, Ash took a position at another direct sales company, Stanley Home Products. Ash sold home care products directly to the customers and again demonstrated excellent marketing skills. However, Ash became disillusioned with her work as her success did not bring any promotion opportunities or even praise from her superiors.

Ash was a member of Prestonwood Baptist Church in Plano, Texas. She served on several of the church&#;s building committees and was a faithful member of the congregation, church leaders said.
A memorial service will be held Nov. 28 at Park Cities Baptist Church, where Ash&#;s son is a member.

Born Mary Kathlyn Wagner in Harris County, Texas, she graduated from Reagan High school in , within a year she married Ben Rogers. Mary Kay’s career started in direct selling, purportedly she began selling books door to door, and in she joined the direct selling firm, Stanley Home Products, in Houston, Texas.
Working with Stanley until , at the time of her divorce and with three children, she decided to take a position with World Gift Company in Dallas as a national training director. After her superiors passed her over several times for promotions, she finally decided to leave the company in Her main dissatisfaction was that her male counterparts received promotions to which she was qualified for, but because she was a woman her superiors declined to give her the same opportunity.
This prompted her to write a book about her experience and hopefully teach women how to succeed in business. Her book, soon became a business plan for what would become the largest direct selling cosmetic company in the world.
